DesignLab Nation 2022
In collaboration with the National Glass Centre, Sunderland, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London
In 2022 I was commissioned to design and deliver the DesignLab Nation programme on behalf of the National Glass Centre and V&A for secondary school children in Sunderland. The DesignLab Nation programme helps to support learning in creativity, art, design, making and technology with the hope that more students will undertake art and design subjects at GCSE and beyond. Four schools from the Sunderland area participated in a sequence of 4 day long sessions, 3 based at the National Glass Centre and one at the V&A, London. The theme for DesignLab Nation 2022 was Sustainability, Recycling and Repurposing.

School groups visited the V&A to explore the collections and learn about designs developed with sustainability, recycling and repurposing at the core.
Learning at the V&A
Developing, creating and presenting ideas at National Glass Centre
Students were able to explore creative thinking methods and generate ideas in a broad variety of media. They took what they had learned from the programme and developed their own ideas for prototype designs made from recycled and repurposed objects.
Designers and makers working at and in association with National Glass Centre were asked to offer insights into their working processes as well as deliver masterclass workshops in ceramics and glass.
